Eric Ye Music Studio
Hello there! I’m Eric, a pianist and composer based in Southern California. I studied Piano Performance at San Francisco State University and have performed in numerous jazz and pop bands, as well as serving as an organist at local churches. I am a film/game composer and director of the Video Game Music Institute (vgminstitute.com). I bring a wealth of experience teaching music to students of all ages and levels, ranging from beginners to music professionals from the most prestigious music schools in the world, including Berklee College of Music and and NYU. My background as a classically-trained keyboardist and composer versed in jazz, pop, and musical theatre styles makes me uniquely equipped to give my students well-rounded training.
Teaching is my passion and I consider it to be one of my gifts. I’m dedicated to helping students discover their love for music while building a strong foundation in technique and music theory. Whether you're looking for piano lessons for yourself or your child, I tailor my lessons to each student's age and skill level, having them reading music and playing songs from the very first lessons. Over the years, I’ve helped my students succeed in learning pieces by great composers and developing their own musicality, all taught through online Zoom lessons. I look forward to helping you on your musical journey!
2024 Studio Programs
Ages 5-10 (Elementary School)
Elementary school-aged students will build a strong foundation in music with my lessons. Through fun and simple songs, your child will learn essential skills like basic rhythm, finger coordination, playing with both hands, and identifying piano key names. As they progress, they will begin reading notes and playing more advanced pieces. My supportive and engaging approach fosters a love for music while helping students develop healthy practice habits—crucial to their musical growth and overall development.
Ages 11-17 (Middle and High School)
Middle and high school students will progress through piano pieces and exam repertoire to build a strong foundation in technique, including scales and arpeggios. I help students cultivate discipline and healthy practice habits, guiding them to build the necessary focus and commitment required to excel in piano studies. They will also learn music theory concepts and gain a well-rounded understanding of music, including music history. Workbook assignments will reinforce these learning concepts, helping students strengthen their note-reading skills and fluency. For students who show a natural interest, I will introduce composition exercises and prepare them for composition. More advanced students may explore other styles, such as video game music, pop, jazz, and film music.
Adults
I teach adults at all levels, from complete beginners to advanced students. In the first lesson, beginners will learn to read notes and play simple songs. I make learning the piano approachable and easy to grasp, with proven success among students of all ages. My lessons focus on developing musicality, mastering piano terminology, and improving finger coordination. I also teach effective practice techniques to ensure consistent progress. With an engaging, fun, and motivating teaching style, students will explore piano classics and eventually progress through the ABRSM grades. They will acquire a strong foundation that will enable them to perform their favorite songs and tackle more advanced pieces with confidence.
Piano Curriculum
At my studio, we use the Piano Adventures series for beginner students. This series offers an excellent selection of engaging and fun music, suitable for both children and adults, while introducing the classics of the canon. After completing this curriculum, students transition to the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exam pieces, progressing through various levels. Alongside piano pieces, students will work on m workbook assignments that reinforce music theory and accelerate reading fluency.
